An Eventful Journey: A Voyage Through Maritime Law.

Following the journey of a fictional sailing trip, this talk explores a variety of laws and regulations that can impact you while at sea. From the familiar rules of the road, to the boundaries of territorial waters and what to do if you discover a shipwreck, this talk offers a unique law-oriented perspective on seafaring adventures. Expect interactive elements, and to come away with a stronger grasp of the legal side of sailing.

This talk is presented by Juliette Kemp, Law student at the University of Exeter.

Members and non members welcome. This talk is free.

The talk will be available on Zoom for those joining remotely.

Spend too much time bouncing buoys and on the phone apps to bother about navigation? Remember how to calculate variation and deviation? And adjusting your CTS for leeway?

This weekend is an opportunity to get back to navigation basics - following on from the practical nav course ran earlier in the year, for those looking to take their RYA theory and practical exams and those who need to simply brush up their rusty skills.

The cost of the charter per person is expected to be around £390 per person, based on a crew of four and a club skipper

A refundable security deposit of £3000.00 per yacht, payable at handover, will be required to cover any damage expenses.

This is shared equally between all the crew, and will be returned to you after the event has successfully completed, less any costs incurred.

The second mile builder of the year, a chance for some long leg sailing, whether to France, the Channel Islands, Brighton and beyond or Torbay.

Whether you're keen to get out into open water, experience sailing beyond harbour hopping or looking to get qualifying passages for RYA progression, this is a weekend for you. Expect long passages and some night sailing.

Always wondered what the sail tweakers were doing? Want to know when and when not to use the vang? And when to use the outhaul? Or just looking to go faster and sail better. This weekend is all about practising sail trim. Skippered by George Hoskins, RBYC's tweaker-in-chief, this is a great weekend to improve your sailing technique.

The annual close of the year - the hotly contested annual buoy hunt. Something between orienteering by boat, chess and a game show, sail to as many buoys as you can in the time set aside to score points - with prize giving over dinner and the opportunity to be the winning boat. Last year we had four boats out - lets see if we can make it five this year!
